Born into a family of gallery owners, Carol Descordes inherited the culture and codes of classical art from a very early age. It was in the heart of this universe that she developed a sensitive eye, nourished by art history and aesthetic rigour. Settling in the hills of the Perche region, she has embarked on a photographic project focusing on the surrounding forest landscape. This research, both sensitive and contemplative, has given rise to several books and exhibitions. Her meeting with antique dealer Sylvain Chériau marked a turning point. She drew on her dual classical and visual culture to begin a series devoted to the still life, a pictorial genre that she revisits with finesse. She masters lighting and staging with rare precision, recreating the soft light and accurate tones characteristic of ancient painting. As an heiress to the world of antique dealers, she knows the secrets of composition, materials, gestures and objects.
