Visits & Outings

Description

On this tour, you'll discover the jewels of stained glass in the Perche Sarthois region, in particular the 35 stained glass windows dating from the late 15th to the 19th century in the church of Notre-Dame-des-Marais in La Ferté-Bernard. They bear witness to the development of this art form and the influence exerted by this remarkable centre of creativity on the surrounding parishes in the 16th century. You'll also see how this fascinating art of colour and light was revived in rural churches in the 19th century. Meet in front of the church of Notre-Dame-des-Marais. This tour by private car will then take you to discover the stained glass windows in the churches of Courgenard and Saint-Ulphace. Meet at Place Carnot, parking recommended at Place de la République. This tour is part of a special stained glass programme organised in collaboration with the Villes et Pays d'art et d'histoire de La Sarthe, in conjunction with the "Peindre la lumière, le vitrail 19e - 21e siècles" exhibition at the Musée Jean-Claude Boulard, Carré Plantagenêt in Le Mans, until 31 October 2026. Full price: €5 Reduced admission : 3€ Free for under-26s
