Description

Originally from Australia, Diana Brennan lives and works in France. Whilst teaching for 20 years at the École supérieure d’arts appliqués Duperré in Paris, she continued her work as an artist, taking part in numerous art events. Her works have been widely exhibited in France, Europe, Australia and New York. Influenced by the light of her native country, she is fascinated by the effects of light on her textile structures, using knitwear reimagined through the incorporation of copper and stainless steel threads, linen and nylon. She is equally at ease with the large-scale formats of her ‘moon dresses’ as she is with smaller works, which she presents as a series of close-up perspectives on detail. In 2009, Diana exhibited three ‘Moon Dresses’ at the Prieuré de Tuffé, and this year she returns with her exhibition ‘Retour’, where she feels as though she is coming home. This time, her dresses and her work on the bushfires in Australia will take over the Priory’s three main rooms. Beyond the creations in the style we have come to recognise, the ‘Retour’ exhibition offers an insight into her sensitivity to the consequences of the bushfires that ravaged part of Australia, her country of origin. People, wildlife and flora were not spared by the fires that devastated parts of her native Australia in 2012 and again in 2020.
